Technical Requirements

Taking part in ELITA Live webinars is easy – if you’re reading this, you’ve probably got the equipment and skills to do it already!

All webinars take place in an online virtual learning environment in which the instructor can use text, graphics, sound and video to make presentations in real time. As well as the on-screen experience, you also dial into a phone conference to hear what the instructor is saying, ask questions and interact with other trainees.

All you need is:

• A personal computer, either laptop or desktop. The WebEx webinar software we use for training runs on all major operating systems, including Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X.
• A reasonably fast internet connection. Because ELITA Live webinars involve the use of multimedia in real time, you should use broadband/cable/ISDN rather than dialup. However, all webinars should run efficiently on all popular home broadband packages and 3G mobile broadband connections.
• A phone that allows you to dial a toll-free number. You can dial local, toll-free numbers from North America, Europe and most other countries.
• A quiet place where you can spend an hour without being interrupted: your bedroom or office, a cosy corner in a coffee shop or a hotel room

A couple of things you might find useful:

• A hands-free headset or speakerphone. This is by no means essential – it just allows you to use both hands for your keyboard and mouse.
• Pen and paper – although documents used during the webinar can be easily saved so you can review them at your own convenience later on.

In terms of skills, as long as you have a basic grasp of how to use a web browser and use keyboard and mouse to enter text, you should have no problem at all. Absolutely no advanced technical knowledge is required to take part in ELITA Live seminars.
